1. Make a log-log plot of the condensation heat transfer coefficient h_c  for the vertical tube versus.

 According to Kern,  for steam at atmospheric pressure.  Be sure to keep the steam pressure constant at about 3 psig.   where t_f , the average film temperature equals   where T_v  is the temperature of the saturated vapor, and t_w is the temperature of the outside tube wall.    t_w  should be calculated based on the bulk average water temperature (inlet to outlet).   Likewise, the  h_c , which is determined experimentally, should be calculated based on average conditions for the water.  Plot both the experimentally determined and the literature values of  h_c on the same log-log paper.  The slope of the line gives the exponent b, while 'a' can be calculated from the intercept.

2. Plot versus on log-log scales for the vertical tube.  Determine the slope and intercept.  G' is the condensate flow rate per linear foot:

3. Do the same plots as in 1. (they may be placed on the same paper) for the horizontal tube, except the vertical tube length L becomes the horizontal tube outside diameter D_o .

4. Repeat 2. for the horizontal tube with  

5. For both tubes, determine the uncertainty in  h_c due to uncertainties in the flow rate and the film temperature measurements.
