OBJECTIVE

  • Provide engineering students with the opportunity to participate in a team-oriented hands-on design and construction project.
  • Design and construct a car that is powered with a chemical energy source that will carry a specified load over a given distance and stop.
  • Encourage students to become actively involved in their professional societies.
  • Promote mentoring amoung faculty and undergraduate students, while encouraging cross-discplinary interaction within the College of Engineering.

THE COMPETITION

A poster competition where they present how their cars are built and powered and defend their safety. And a distance or performance competition where the cars are expected to traverse a certain distance without leaving the boundary, as seen below. The exact distance, and the load the car will have to carry, are not known until competition.

2006 - 07 UPCOMING EVENTS

November 17 - AIChE Annual National Conference held in Salt Lake City, Utah

Each year the annual competition is held in conjunction with the Annual Student Conference at the site of the AIChE Annual Meeting. A host AIChE chapter, along with the national AIChE staff and the competition sub-committee from the Student Chapters Committee, provide support for the annual competition.

OU CHEM CAR TEAM

The Univeristy of Oklahoma currently has four chemical cars under construction for competing in the Spring Regional Conference. The teams are composed of chemical, mechanical, and aerospace engineers. A safety team of students and instructors advise students in their quest for victory and participate in weekly meetings.

PARTICIPATION

To participate in the Chemical Car Compeition at the Unviersity of Oklahoma or become a sponsor, please contact Dan Dobesh by e-mail at daniel.j.dobesh@ou.edu or for more information, visit the OU AIChE website.
